That is a function of the "follow me" lock.

Perhaps there is a short or some other malfunction which is causing the pass. door to "unlock itself."

Fortunately, this function no longer works on my 'vert.

the doors are designed to unlock when you're closing them if you don't hold the handle up so you dont lock your keys in the car. street racer, that's really weird about your door. i don't know what the problem could be without looking at it. but definitely get an alarm system. remote start is always a nice feature.

I have an 88tII and my passenger door does the same thing. It's freakin' wierd as ****. It will be locked one second and the next thing you know it is unlocked. I don't have an alarm anymore so it's not that just some wierd ****. I'm going to get a new alarm / keyless entry to see if it helps this out any.

I have a similar story. My friend in my younger days bought a toyota celica and the doors would lock and then unlock themselves as soon as the driver shut the door. We it turns out the previous owner had a spare key stashed in the trunk of the car and the door would not lock with a key in the car. Freaky stuff and he found it one day installing some speakers

You have worn & dirty contacts in the driver's side lock position switch.
Pull the door handle plastic cover & spray some contact cleaner into the switch.

My favorite contact cleaner is "CRC QD contact cleaner" from the electrical department at Home Depot.

i dont have power locks neither, i would lock the doors, and they would be fine, i would check both sides and when i get back after a shift at work, or in 2hours going to the mall par-say, i would check the passengers side door and it would be unlocked.... it's not fun....

My brothers FC was like that too. The passenger door would slowly unlock itself. I think it has to do with the metal rods inside the door. Each rod has a plastic clip that holds it to the locks and the handle. If the rod isnt adjusted properly, it tends to either push or pull the lock. By messing with it, you'll find that it wont let you lock the door, wont let you unlock the door, or wont let you open it. I'd check this out before messing with the electronics.

mine does tha same thing, when you lock it it creeps back up. and when you lock it then shut the door it unlocks. just one of those things that makes the FC a must have

passenger lock

Great thread ! Yep, my 90 vert does the same thing and it annoyed me so badly today I found this thread already running about it. The passenger side lock seems to come unlocked while driving. Hit a bump or two and it unlocks. I figured it was probably a sensor or something out of alignment after 15 yrs. I guess I'll have to take a look.

It definately sounds like either your actuator rods in the door are bent/out of adjustment, or somethings gummed up in the latch mech. My guess is the latch. It's locking halfway, then spring tension pulls it back off, kinda like a ball on the top of a hill. It's going to roll down the closest side. You should probably pull your latch mechanism and clean the heck out of it, then apply new lithium brease to the springs and moving parts. I just had my door apart to replace a broken spring, and cleaning & lubing it helped everything else.

I ran into this problem when I had to reconnect the little clothes hanger wire type linkage to the keylock inside the door. It got bent somehow when I was putting it back together and now I can only unlock it with the key from the outside. That sucks when you let it close after you lock it because you gotta use the key to get the power windows down then use the key to unlock it....or climb over and out the passenger side...
