Parts -where to buy?

I need a new EGR valve and a new fuel pulsation damper for my '86 NA. The dealer wants $350 for these 2 parts ($225 for EGR and $125 for pulsation damper)!!! What a rip! The local parts stores like NAPA say they can't get them -dealer only. Anyone know where else I can try? Is there a wholesale option for dealer parts?

thanks,

Eric

BTW, do I really need an EGR valve? I run a high flow cat and want to pass emissions.

Eric,

You might want to send an e-mail to Tony Tucker at H.D Rogers & Sons. E-mail hdrsons@yahoo.com. Their web site is http://www.hdrogers.com

I found them using one of those parts search engines. The company specializes in European car parts, but he has some hookups with some Japanese parts suppliers. He told me that he can get his hands on about any OEM Mazda parts except for body panels/parts, and can sell them CHEAP!!

I just bought a new stock Mazda OEM main cat from Tony for $295, a $1500 savings from the price Mazda quotes (around $1800!!!).

This guy was totally awesome to work with. He really spent alot of time making sure that the cat he had found was the correct one for my car and he was very prompt about getting it shipped. We exchanged quite a few e-mails with questions I had about the part and he quickly replied. He shipped it a couple of days after I paid him and even took the initiative to e-mail the UPS tracking number to me without me asking.

He will definitely be the first place I contact when looking for stock parts from now on. Screw Mazda and their %500 mark-up on parts.

I have had a great time with Mazdaformance.com. There prices are much better than dealers, Mazdatrix, and many other places. There website has a place to download the parts indexs. That is so nice to have. One shippment from them included a $30 RX-7 book. The Dinkle one. They randomly put free stuff in some of their shipments. I deal with Brian.

I also noticed on your post you question needing an egr. I am not sure how the emmisions system works. But I know if you are running a cat the airpump needs to pushing air into it so it will do its job. On my car the airpump feeds the ACV then a pipe runs to the cat.

Let me know what your price quotes are...

Since starting my part time shop, I have a dealer account.

I can get you great pricing...

But your not seriously considering putting anything other than a 1991 fuel rail back on are you?

You WANT to burn up the car?

Get a 1991 fuel rail, solves the problem.

Wankel7,

Yeah, I'm keping my ACV and airpump, but I don't think the EGR valve affects the cat does it?

Sniper X,

what's better about the '91 FR? Why not just replace the PD on my existing FR? Or perhaps just remove the PD and plug the hole? What's your cost on an EGR Valve?

Everybody else,

Thanks!

the Pulsation damper in these cars fails.
Leaks
Causes fires.

Its like one of the most known things about these PDs.

If you plug the PD at the eng of the rail, you will produce a "water hammer" effect.
this can over time blow out a injector, seal, or blow off a fuel line.

The 1991 PDs solve this problem.

Once the screw on the PD you have backs out, it then will crack and leak.

You can replace it, but your just "resetting the timer" on a dangerous part.

I am not familiar with a EGR valve on the engine.

Where is it?

The EGR valve is on the top of the rotor housing in the center, right under the upper intake manifold. It looks like a little space ship with a vac line attached.

Have you tested the EGR to make sure its bad? And that Pulsation Damper is DANGEROUS!! I started smelling gas the other day, so I took my Rex home. Come to find out, the PD was leaking, BADLY. So I managed to get a hold of a 91 fuel rail. Dont play with that peice of junk PD, you will end up burning your car down.

No, I haven't tested it, but I can see cracks in the diaphram. Does disabling it offer any performance gain?
