Parts changing for emissions inspections?
OK, there's the everlasting problem of "ok I just go street ported but I can't pass emissions. What to i do?"
Well, My idea is as follows.
Go to the junk yard (god I love that place!!) and pick out the goods you want. I would think an intake plentum, exhaust header, extra cat(s).
After you have picked the parts out you go about your tuning needs. Port and polish the intake and exhaust. totally gut the cat you picked and whatever else.
when it comes time to get your RX inspected simply put the "stock" parts back on! That way, you should not have many problems passing unless you have engine (like inside the housing) problems.
It's my understanding that a CHASSIES is passed for emissions, even though the tests measure the engine.
Is this possible? Worth the effort? Anybody done it?

Luckily I live in Birmingham and dont have such problems (yet).
I would think that you really have no other choice but to do something like that if you really want to make some power. Would seem likle a lot of work...how often is emissions inspection?

in GA we have to get inspected, I think, once every two or three years. So, for me, It would be well worth it. And besides, having spares of some items is good anyway. For me, getting my emissions inspected happens in august when I've got extra time sooting out of my ***.
Has anybody done this. Obviously it's illegal, but you DO pass the emissions and it's MUCH easier than doing an entire swap, and you don't have to slip the guy that inspcts you a $50 or $100(!) to get past.

Yes indeed, its a solid and good idea. A bit of crookedness in it, but a tried and proven idea. Go for it.
Civil disobedience (sp) of the highest order! Just as you ignore speed limits that make no sense. Civil disobedience (sp) I say!

Yeah. I was being a bit of a jerk. Made an attempt to make up for it in the second post. We all have our moments being less than what our mom's and pop's would have wanted us to be like. Sorta like the other day in the Albertsons parking lot where I mouthed B...H at a woefully inadequate woman driver. She turned that minivan around in a heart beat and let me know that what she did was wrong but hardly worth being called a
B..ch! She surely must have good lip reading abilities, because I had my window rolled up at the time. Oh, she was a B..ch by the way. She's the same slug I heard in the Autozone a few weeks ago telling the counter man that *THERES NO REASON FOR BEING RUDE TO ME*. She was returning some goofballed up mechandise that she had ordered in error. This belongs in the lounge. Kick me off the forum, please. Good post JABBADZENUTS
