Parts availability for FCs.

Can you just go to say.... your local NAPA store and get parts pretty easily? I mean things like alternators, water pumps, etc.? On top of that, how much do the parts generally cost? I know for my 88 Accord, it was $125 for a rebuilt alternator. Do the FC average alot higher then the average car for parts?

Most won't have the stuff in stock, but they'll have access to remanufactured items typically arriving in stock in a day or two.

Of course, everyone is going to bring up the reliability issue of remanufactured items like the altenator.

FC parts vary in price, it seems as if the 89-91 parts run slightly more most of the time.

Don't forget generic belts!

But forget getting gaskets the same day.

Haha, they don't even have belts for mine, i have to bring in my old one and they just kind of size it up and give me one. They always say they're 'out of stock' on the numbers that show up on the computer.

Hmmm.... that sucks if you blow something. I should head down to the local pulling yard and see if they have any FCs laying around just in case.

I imagine alot of the components are shared with other Mazda cars, right? So something like an alternator shouldn't be that hard to find. I just use that as an example since I just replaced it on my Accord (which involved pulling the engine halfway out ).

I don't mind remanufactured parts either. I've always used them and never had a problem.

Yea it does suck. There's not too much if anything shared in between platforms...I think the later 90-91's share the same CPU as something else, the rad overflow caps are the same as older 323s, haven't found too much to be usable in junkyards from other mazdas.
