Parking lights are getting me in trouble

My parking lights have gone out on me. The headlights work fine and the brakes when depressed light up. The dash lights stopped working at the same time. I checked the fuses under the the driver side dash with no luck. I figure its got to be easy to pinpoint with all these symptoms.

Bad switch or possibly bad ground?

Could try cleaning up the grounds first. Aaron has a good write up for that here:

check your CPU for a short circuit.

In case you don't know( and for future searches) the CPU is on the Driver's side behind a kick panel. You can pull that out and inspect it or replace it completely.

highly unlikely, its the switch most likely, either bad, or fried harness, same thing happened to me...twice!... before I bought a IceMark rebuild and wired in the heavy duty relay

Better to give him everything all at once. The sooner he checks it and checks it off the list the closer he is to finding the issue.

Check the headlight switch and then the harness for the switch. It happend to me before and I figured out the switch had fried and also fried the harness to it. The good thing is, you can replace that harness. It is like 2 feet long and has a blue plug at each end. Just make sure you use an s4 harness for s4 and s5 harness for s5, because they are pinned diffferently that way you just plug and play. Otherwise you have to repin some wires.

Overall it is very easy to do.

The CPU has nothing to do with the parking lights, other than the warning beeper if the door is open and the lights are on

Turn signals and parking lights are two different things and two different circuits.

I know, brain farts are allowed every once in a while. At least I didn't tell him to turn the car on and start pulling wires with wet hands while standing in a puddle of water.

It's DC, it won't hurt him that bad. Now if he was trying to crank it over while doing that:
