Angry Parking Brake Light Won't Go Off!

The idiot light for the parking brake won't go off! The brake is all the way down, the car runs fine, so I know that the brake is out! It is really annoying!

Make sure your brake fluid is topped off.

If your brake fluid is low, then the brake light will come on and stay on regardless of the position of the parking brake. There is a fluid sensor in the brake fluid resevoir.

The BRAKE warning Light comes on for many brake failure modes most modern brake fluid reseviors have a level sensor that lights the BkLt. and also on some cars there is a line pressure sensor that can tell if a line breaks or a caliper is bad. My 73 MBZ has both!
Or The switch on the Hand Bk Lever could be broken or need adjusted If the plunger broke off the light would stay on all the time - That happened on an old Fiat I had for awile.

Cool mine did that.....

have you wired anything up like gauges or anything. when i got my a/f gauge hooked up the tech tapped into the emergency brake wire to give it juice. as i was leaving the shop i notice the break light wouldnt go off.

i got it fixed of course but just thought i'd ask

Nope. My baby only has intake and exhaust, and is a N/A. I really don't see the need for extra gauges since I'm saving $$ to buy either a 13BT, or if Mommy will Help a 20B!

So save your money and don't worry about the parking brake. Go buy some brake fluid and look at your master cylinder, because you're low on fluid.

JohnL is right about the level. My fluid was low in my 88 T2 and I got sideways around a turn and the light came on until I bleeded the brake lines and topped it off. No problems after that.
