Parking brake broken

Cars going fine, nothin weird, then when i was goin to school, the parking brake wouldn't come off. Pulled the lever all the way down, but the car didn't roll down the driveway, and the e-brake light was still on. thought that maybe it was just cause it was really cold, around 15 F, and the brake froze. got a ride to school, came home, hopefully the sun mighta heated it up, but nothin. the lever only clicks 5-6 times, so it's not NOT adjusted, and it still has resistence like everything is connected, but i don't know, the car isn't moving.

thanks, scott

^^^^^hes right

BUT

If the car doesnt move when the parking brake is down and the brake light is still on, then the lines are probably frozen.

My old 91 NA used to do that... the rear brakes would stick REALLY hard. It was the combo between that light sheet of rust your brakes get and the extreme cold... I had to just throttle the car back really hard and it would go "pop" and be fine.. did that the whole winter. But, I don't think it was the lines freezing; and it doesn't get as cold as that here.......

i tried driving the car around and the brake was only slightly on now. the car would move, but there was almost no acceleration, and when i got off the gas, the car came to a quick stop, so i know the e-brake is dragging, but i can't figure how to get it off. i don't really know how e-brake works, i know there's a cable that connects to the lever and goes to the brakes, and there's some stuff inbetween, but that's about it.

thx for the answers

This happened to me also and took a few hours for me to determine the problem, I had to remove the wheel before I understood.
