Parking Brake

Has anyone ever taken apart the rear brake system. Focus on the Parking Brake Assembly? I need to talk to someone that has done it before.

Get a manual for your car... it should answer all your questions, right?

Ron,

With rear disc brakes, the parking break assy. simply actuates the rear pistons. If you mean "take apart" as in a pad change, just go about it the same way you do the fronts. However, If you mean a complete rebuild I'm not the guy you need talk to.

7 brake Gurus, this one is for you!

Nothing gets into the assembly itself. All the manuals stop with where the cable attaches to the fork. I need to talk about the internal mechanism. I've checked Chiltons, Haynes, and the official Mazda Manual.

Well, I fixed the thing. They get all stuck on one side. The only way to fix it is to tear it all apart and fill it with penetrating oil. I did that and now it locks of just fantastic. The only problem is that the bolt that sticks out of the actuator is loose, it can slide up and down in the sleeve. I don't know what is going on down inside there so I don't know if I have it back together correctly.

I doubt it should... but I have no clue what you're talking about so you should probably ignore me

Congrats for havin the ***** to rip it apart. Now you know how it works.

I would imagine that the bolt should NOT stick out.

Did you do both sides?

if not then usethe other as an example.
