Help, car wont stay alive!

Ever since I bought the car it has never stayed alive on its own. I always have to give it gas so it wont die on me. I changed spark plugs, oil, and tried to adjust the tps and still nothing works. Has anyone had any incidents similar to this one? If so how did you fix it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
