Question Painting Turbo Parts....

Hey guys, i just picked up an S5 turbo in pretty good shape, no shaft play at all!...

i was wondering, since there is a little bit of surface rust, i thought i would just paint it, mabe sand it down a little bit then paint but what kind of paint should i use, and how should i go abouts painting it....

i want to paint everything except the actual turbo, i want to paint the lines, the O thing to the left of the turbo that has minor surface rust on it and all....

and one more thing, how can i clean the turbo, the outside does have soot on it, i was told gas and a tooth brush, what you think...?

the "O thing" is a wategate...

You can buy high temp engine paint from Pep Boys and what not, just take off/mask/cover anything you dont want to get paint on and spray away. Carb cleaner might clean the turbo up. I dont know if using gas on it is such a good idea, gets hot around there.

heh, its 3 am here. definitely sand the rust off first.

here is the wastegate port...on the back of the hotside i believe (im an n/a guy so...)

the "O thing" is a part of the wastegate, you should see a rod coming out of that part to the hotside of the turbo where it opens the little flap to expose those ports.

again, im an n/a guy, so forgive me for any misinfo thats right from what i understand though.

Now is the time to port it, while it's out on the bench.
You will be so glad you did.

Open up the ports, back clearance the door, and open the narrow exit passage.
