Paint Job or Replace the damaged areas?
My rx7 is currently in the show. =( It has been for the past six months. Initially it was in there because of a Thermal eccentric valve replacement. Now I'm considering a paint job. I already put a thousand down but he still has not painted it so I still have the option now to cancel and do something else. I guess I'm wondering if I should just replace the door and the fender. or replace the entire shell to all black. Which one do you think would be cheaper? This mechanic is thinking that its going to cost somewhere around 2-2.5 to paint it all black. Do you think I should paint it black? All opinions welcome. I posted some pics of what it used to look like lol before the drivers side door got crunched and the passenger side fender got dented.

I wasn't sure if it would just be cheaper to swap out the fenders.... The passenger side fender is concaved and the drivers side door is rippled. I have a new door and fender thats prob why its 2500 and he's going to use metalux paint. Also I remember hearing something about just doing a base coat and then a clear coat. obviously hes going to prime too

Black shows all. If your not going for perfection don't bother IMO. Note: lighter colors will show less imperfections. I've used Metalux single stage before on a dune buggy chassis, I wasn't impressed mostly because I'm already familiar with other brands and my mentality (if it isn't broke don't fix it.)
Since the price is low your probably going to be getting Metalux CV which is their fleet/transport vehicle line of colors. The black in that line doesn't look very good compared to other blacks/manufactures, it has a brownish-yellow cast. I prefer black with a blue/purple cast so it doesn't look so old. (Kind of like crystal white fc next to a nobel off white fc looks.)
If your going to swap the doors and fenders, do that yourself before hand. He may have told you an estimate but, that doesn't mean it won't go up once said and done.
As for swapping the shell, at that point just buy a new car.

That sounds very cheap especially for a color swap. Are they doing the door jams, inside of the trunk, engine bay, under the gas cap? Are they pulling the moulding around the windows and windshield? Are they going to correct all your door dings and scratches then block sand to ensure there are no ripples? Done right all of that takes time and time is money.
For $2500 not likely. If you just want your door and fender (I assume front fender) fixed and the car painted on the cheap you might as well do what Pontiac said and replace the fender and door yourself and then get Maaco to throw some paint on it.
Pontiac is also right on the paint grade too. BASF, PPG, Dupont, etc all have a variety of paint lines addressing a variety of markets with a widely diverse range of price points.
If it's a project then spending good (ie "lots") of money on paint and body makes sense. If youre just bombing around and having fun then spend as little as possible and drive it into the ground!
Good luck!
