p-port questions

ok ive been wondering this for a while, and ive been doing some research. i know the rx8's renesis engine comes stock p-ported, which seems to be the main reason for the power.

whats the kind of power gains for an n/a s4 engine?

i understand that ceramic seals, although expensive, prove to be the best overall, when it comes to protection against detonation, and compression.

but other than going ceramic, i would want to keep it mostly stock....except for what would NEED to be changed.

if i did that would this mean it would be just a p-ported 146 hp s4 engine?

basicaly what i want is a s4 engine with the advantages of having more power, but without the drawbacks of needing a higher octane gas(meaning 93 and up), a major increase in fuel consumption(meaning like going from 15-19 or whatever to like 10-15, or the increased stress of going turbo.

so what would i have to do to get that, or close to that? do i use s5 rotors?

and what kind of price range we talking?

thanks for your help,

dave

The Renesis is not p-ported. There was a thread about this a while back, and I'm not sure where the misinformation began. The RX-8's porting is completely opposite to that of a p-port, no overlap.

A p-port engine is a completely different animal to anything relatively stock. You would need an intake mani, throttle body(ies), a competent ECU, and the list goes on.

If you're just after a bit more power, a streetport with S5 NA rotors and an SAFC, header and exaust will give you decent gains, without sacrificing drivability and you wont have to drive around wearing earplugs.

Uh, NO.

You need to do more research, cause you haven't found the proper info yet.
For a PP motor to work efficiently, the exhaust needs to be really free flowing - basically, you have no exhaust.
There is no jurisdiction in the country that would allow you to run a car that loud, period.
Your powerband starts on the right side of the tach, and trying to run it under that would reward you with dismal gas mileage.

So basically...
NO.

The Renesis is the exact opposite of this. Unlike our 13Bs, it does not use peripheral exhaust ports and instead uses all side ports.

300+ HP.

I'm not sure why you wold want to protect against compression.

They are more detonation resistant but are VERY expensive. Really only suited for high RPM racing applications.

Everything. To go peripheral port you would need to have the housings machined for the ports themselves, the side plates filled in, you would need a custom intake manifold as well as a custom header, full standalone EMS system, fuel system upgrades, etc. etc. Also balancing and clearancing for high RPM operation, lightweight flywheel, three window bearings, other oil mods, etc.

basicaly what i want is a s4 engine with the advantages of having more power, but without the drawbacks of needing a higher octane gas(meaning 93 and up), a major increase in fuel consumption(meaning like going from 15-19 or whatever to like 10-15, or the increased stress of going turbo.
You will get about 8 MPG driving a peripheral port at low RPMs.

Including EVERYTHING, bought retail with some machine work contracted out, $12K.

dude you have an na s/4. Intake, full exhaust, possibly SAFC or Rtek 2.0 , and call it a day for engine mods.
