Talking Owner of an 8, getting a FC

Well I have a red rx8 currently. My younger brother is going to turn 16 here in a year and we were looking at getting an old rx7 to fix up for him. I dont know much about the 7 as I have been looking into the rx8 for the last year or so. I just wanted to post the FC Im looking at right now. I think he said something about putting a 13b with a single turbo in it but im not exactly sure. He knows more about the 7 than I do.

the body looks to be in nice condition.. but i think i'd try to get it for under 1000, i think some ppl might not wanna pay more then 500 for it.. since the tranny needs work the engine might need the same.. try to find more about it..

if he wants to do a turbo swap and your willing to pay some money then just look for a turbo

specially if you guys aren't gonna do the work yourselfs

Well I was looking for the turbo to start with but I havent seen any on autotrader that are around my area. Ive been checking the newspaper as well but no luck so far.

Oh, and like I said, Im a newbie when it comes to the FC but how can you tell the TII from the NA engines without looking under the hood?

Ah, thanks for the info. You happen to know the best way to go about finding one? Are there any other sites like auto trader that might have one listed.

how you can tell a car is a TII?

easiest way? the TII's have hood scoop.. then again unfortunatly some ricers get a hold of rx-7's and put the TII hoods on..

Many of the best RX-7 bargains Are unadvertised.
Take the back roads and keep a lookout while driving around.
I spotted mine parked behind some bushes with about 100 spiders trying to keep it there.
About a year before, it wouldn't start, so they just left it sit.

Find a shop that works on 7's. They usually know where one is for sale.

I'd also check out the For Sale section at the bottom of the main page of this forum. That's where we got my dad's 85 GS. Although, I agree with SureShot. I'm looking at two Rx-7s availble within 20 minutes of me that are backyard specials well, one is technically in the front yard, and another is dead at a mechanic. But you get the point

Backyard specials are the best.

I admit that i am guilty of inquiring about cars that might/might not even be for sale.

I see a 7 sitting on the lawn looking mighty neglected, i just go knock on the door

Frank....Im sorry, this is my opinion but people like you are ******* idiots. Some people just like the damn hood. Doesnt matter if the car is NA or an actual TII but people may be plannin to doin a TII swap and they are a step ahead with the hood. Or some people just think it gives the car a better look. So why do people like you gotta call us ricers? Oooo look at me Im a ricer because I have a TII hood. Well then I guess Im proud of being a ricer because to me it makes my car look nicer.

Yeah! If I go front mount soon (will do) i'm keeping my Tii hood even if the intercooler isnt there, there's air rushing in so it could cool down the engine + it makes it look better.

I resent that. The turbo II hoods & the Vert hoods are alot lighter then a stock BASE/GLX/GTU hood. Its a TII hood perfectly valid mod.

Some of us also have former turbo cars that were rebuilt as N/As... but the hood is still there.

If you are basing the TII-hood-on-an-NA-mod purely on weight, then that argument doesn't fly, since NA aluminium hoods are even lighter than the TII ones.

So, use the NA hood and stop pretending to be a TII.

Anyway, keep bashing Frank...he likes it

OK first of all, you ignorant ****, if anyones a ******* idiot it's you for taking that comment personally,

2!you read way to far into nothing, when the ****! did i mention ppl doing a TII swap with a TMIC and using the TII hood were ricers?

3! If the TII hood is your first modification into doing a turbo swap you have your priorities mixed up, but just in case your argument is the hood was the 1st thing you found then just keep it till you have your swap ready to go cause finding a matching colour turbo hood would be very lucky and paining it would take away money your gonna need to get your entire TII drivetrain

and like eViL pointed out if your getting the hood for just the weight the N/A hood is lighter, so next time you feel like calling someone a ******* idiot take a look in a mirror just so you don't end up insulting yourself in the process

PS eViL don't mistake your fetishes for mine

So in conclusion, JJ01769, if you think you want to go turbo at some point, start out with a TII, the turbo model, it will be much much cheaper. I think that is what they are trying to argue?

just be careful and if you have any questions on one you are trying to buy, just ask here like you just did. these guys are harsh and honest, and they will tell you what they think of a car and what you should pay, its a great resource.

ive been researching rx7's for over a year now, and it looks like im about to get a 1990 gtu for my first car in a month or so. if you look long and hard enough, you will find the right car. it might not be on autotrader. theres a garage kept, under 100,000miles gxl-se in my neighborhood that wasnt for sale but i went and asked the owner about it cause she never drives it and seh said she would sell it. price was way too high though. i was lucky and found that an rx7 mechanic lives 15 minutes from me and sells rx7s and does work on them. so if i had the money i could easily get any year/model rx7 i wanted.
