overheating transmission

so my transmission has been getting extremely hot lately.
its not just because im missing a little insulation.
the entire area around the tranny gets really hot, even the carpet along the tranny tunnel.
the metal on the shifter gets to hot to touch, even burned me.
but everything shifts and drives fine.
i know this cannot be normal.
any ideas.

It's the exhaust heat coming through the transmission tunnel. The factory exhaust has heat shields around it to prevent that.

the only heat shield i took off was the one in between the driveshaft and exhaust.
would it really heat all the way to the tranny?
and i'm on a relatively stock exhaust with PO midus redone.

I don't have any heat shields and never had that problem. Heat still comes up because I haven't bought the rubber boot yet, but its not so hot it burns. I have no idea what your problem is, unless your piping stops right there at that point. I ran my car with just the downpipe and it still didn't do much except I couldn't ride with the windows up.

If you don't have the heat shields, then that would increase the heat in that area...
