CO Overheating help

I searched around and didn't quite see anything similar to my situation

I have a S5 T2 that the PO "modded" a bit. It has a two pass koyo radiator with a poor fitting OEM fan shroud (thanks to the PO hacking it up to make the rad "fit") and the small e-fan removed.

In between autocross runs the stock temp gauge rises from 1/2 to almost 3/4 (takes a little bit to start moving), but drops back to 1/2 almost immediately once the car starts moving again. It only ever rises after a run, never during normal driving

What would be my best course of action to get the temps stable? There are no 2nd gens in salvage yards around, so getting a used fan clutch locally to see if mine is on its way out isn't going to happen. Since the stock fan shroud is kinda trashed and doesn't mate up to the rad well anymore, I'm thinking replacing with a big e-fan and a new shroud would probably be best, but I'd like a second opinion. Also, what should I do with the small pusher e-fan that is missing? Replace it, or forget it?

Thanks

Pontiac 6000 e-fan and shroud should fight over the rad quite well...also is the under tray there that's a big part of cooling these cars

Undertray is attached and in good shape.

Looks like the salvage yard about 2.5 hours away has one pontiac 6000, but no guarantees the fan is still available. Usually the engine bays get raped the day the car appears in the yard.

One of the threads I came across recommended flex-a-lite brand fans from summit. What particular model would work? For the time, effort, and fuel cost on a dice roll, I'd probably rather just buy a new one.

on my old T2 it would overheat in traffic. come to find out my fan was wired backwards. instead of it pulling air from the front to the engine it was doing the opposite. just something you should look into. good luck!

?

How can the belt driven fan run backwards? Or are you referring to the front e-fan? As I said, the previous owner removed it

There are any number of OEM efans that will work better than a Flex-a-lite.
Taurus/Lincoln/Villager/Volvo are all fans I've personally tried with great success and they're all fairly common in junkyards.
Dunno about yards in Boulder but we have a few down here in Denver that would be rife with donor fans. If you want to meet up and go picking, LMK.
