What have you checked and what have you tested?

Radiator not clogged?

Water pump not leaking coolant through the weep hole?

Radiator caps seal well?

All hoses and clamps not leaking?

Overflow reservior filled to the appropriate level?

Coolant / water mix at around 50 / 50?

Viscous fan engaging properly?

Fan shroud installed and adjusted correctly?

Engine undertray installed?

Okay, verify the radiator is not clogged.

Let the engine warm up a bit and run your hand over the *core* of the radiator.
It would help to have the fan shroud removed; BE CAREFUL OF THE SPINNING FAN!
You might want to remove the fan too temporarily.

You don't have to touch the fins - just make sure the all of the rad is getting heated evenly.
If there are cool spots (enough you can directly touch it without getting burned), the radiator is clogged and needs to be cleaned or (I would recommend) replace.

When i bought my car.. it had a overheating problem too.. and i pulled it over and found it had no problem.. like leaks, coolant level, fan, etc.. but when i started to car again.. the upper radiator hose was all suctioning in.. it wasnt bled properly when they put new coolant in.. so maybe you have air in the coolant system..

And since u said its only in the idle and traffic and what not.. could it be that your water pump is bad?
