I've asked this a few times but it was a while ago . i have a voltage meter and im not sure what to do . i tried turning the car to the on position and then i unplugged the tps from the harness but then i get stuck on what i have to do next ....where do the positive and the negative rods from the tester go ? what unit of measurement does the tester have to be on ? etc etc . i also have an 89-91 na . i know this is answer frequently but if u can help me out i'd appreciate it . even if u have a website that explains how to adjust the tps on an 89-91 na that would also be very helpful . thanx a lot.
hey man, i tried adjusting the TPS on my T2 this weekend...but i think its wayyyy fucked up and i need a new one. this is a turtorial on a T2 TPS...but i'm guessing the procedure for the n/a is that same. there should be a screw you can adjust to get the reading you want...but my screw was so tough to turn i just couldn't budge it......good luck man
here is the site i used http://www.k2rd.com/FC3S/HOWTO/TPS/tps.html

These links will show you how to do a test connector check and the voltmeter check for 89-91. The dvm check is more accurate. You might also check the full range resistance on both plungers to make sure your tps is good. Have any 12 or 18 error codes?

On your connector pins. The pin layout on my 89 looks like this:
latch on top
123
456
1. Full, data line
2. Narrow, 5v ref line
3. Narrow, data line
4. Full, 5v ref line
5. Full, ground
6. Narrow, ground
You can check the tps resistance by unplugging it and reading across 1 and 5 for full, and 3 and 6 for narrow. (meter set to appropriate kohm setting, 1 to 5 kohm I believe) Should be a continuous sweep, no spikes, as you open the the throttle.
With the connector plugged back in you can check for voltage (ignition set to on or at idle) by sliding the positive probe along the wire down into the back of the connection (very carefully), and negative to ground somewhere. (Use a digital volt meter for this.) Or you can splice in a molex connector like the guy in the first link did.
Hopefully this will clear things up a little.
