Output shaft?

My driveshaft is clicking, so I assume that it is bad. Therefore I bought a new one. Someone told me that if the driveshaft is bad, then the output shaft on the tranny is probably bad too... I would like to know if this is true, and how to check/ repair the output shaft on the tranny. Pretty much I would like to know if I have to change the tranny as well. Thanks for the help.

after searching in the fsm, I cant find anything called the output shaft... Only the propeller shaft which is indeed connected to the driveshaft.... so changining the driveshaft would fix the problem... Another tranny isnt needed... Please someone clarify this for me.... Thanks.
