I think so. I mean the s5 taillights and same colour body moulding makes a big difference too.

I'd just like to hear opinions.

I'd have to say it has the 80's body styling of a sports car. I like it, IMO.

It's not modern by today's standards I would say. But it is definitely an ahead of it's time vintage sports car.

I would say yes, but not 2003/2004 modern looking. It seems that everyone has to have a bubble or oh so rounded car now (except for Cadillac and Ford haha). It still looks fresh though. I'm more of a fan of the S4 lights with painted housings though . But yep...it's pretty modern looking, just not new.

modern is a hard word to gauge. today's modern standards seem to be changing into some futuristic rounded styling i.e. 350z Lexus SC Audi TT. So by those standards no. I mean the FC has the flip up lights for goodness sake. Can it get any more 80's than that?? I don't really think they are modern looking by any standards. But calling it outdated and/or ugly would be a crime. I love the way my FC looks. I searched long and hard and passed up many 240s Integras and Preludes just so that i could own a FC. So i don't think it's modern looking by any standards...but i love my FC none the less.

I think its a bit dated at this point. the series 4 looks exactly from its time period, and the series 5 looks a couple years newer. But compared to almost all of the new car designs, i think it looks better, and the design has held up well.

ps: I also think the 93 -95 FD looks a bit dated...

the look of the FC is timeless
everyone turns their heads when they see the 2nd gen. RX-7, and say ' wtf is that?!'
yea, we do have popup lights, bu on the other hand, it just looks so damn sexy when the lights are down. what other cars (other than popup lights) have that special look of 'where the hell are the headlights?' ?
and don't forget that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
u gotta love ur car

I actually think the FD has stood the test of time. Mazda seemed well ahead of itself when they designed the FD. Most car companies were draggin out styles through this period with cars like the 93 integra 240 or hell even some domestics like the Corvette(very aging by this time and well into 96) and camaro(i HATE those headlights...i get angry everytime i see a pre '98 camaro ) But mazda made a car the was ahead of it's time and i think still meets most of todays standards of great styling

A sports car never gets out of style. Sedans do. It shows it age when people don't take care of the damn thing such as waxing it once in awhile and some TLC.

Cars from the '80s and early '90s look great. New cars are so frickin ugly. Like someone said, they all seem to be going to this bubble looking design. Like, "This is my bubble, don't invade my space". WTF? We don't need this silent running, areodynamically efficient teardrop shape, its a car not a damn submarine.

I like the FC design, although I have no problem updating it's looks (ie. body kits, wings, etc). I still think it's one sweet looking design though, and it definitely beat the snot out of the then much more expensive Porsche 944 body style. The FD is really nice looking too, but even that can stand to use some help (again, body kits and wings, etc).

of course EVERYTHING could use some help. that's what keeps the price down on cars, they manufacture doesn't go all out with the body work or engine. but for an 80's styling, i think the FC pretty much wins over everyone hands down

DUDE are you serious....
I think the FD looks newer(not to mention just plain better) than 97.8 % of the cars on the road....

barely beaten by the rx-8...

and i think the 3rd gen still has better points then the rx-8....minus the renesis, and the suicide doors....

ps....

does anyone know if they got rid of the pulsation dampner on the rx-8....that just popped into my head, and now im curious

The FDs are one of the better lookng cars even though they are 10 years old. The only bad thing is their quality in interior parts.

I really dislike the new car look everyone is going for. One of the reasons that I like the new 2005 mustang look. Its modelled after one of the sexiest cars ever

The design has held up well but it's certainly not modern looking. Consider the origional 240Z or Ferrari Daytona. Heck, even the first gen RX-7. Still a beauty, still fast looking, but not modern.
The FD could be sold as new without any changes though. THAT is saying something for a car that's ten years old.

That's true.

Personally I love the FC styling just because it's older and has no attempt to be futuristic in design (although at the time it probably was).

I love the style of a fastback with flip up headlights, that has a few straight lines on it.

FCs, older 240sx's, etc.. I like how they are styled.

They may not be modern, but I still get plenty of second looks from passer-bys, so it must look good! I like the body style more than any newer cars out there.

FC's only look modern to ppl like us that admire the cars for what they are. Theres no way an FC can look modern on todays roads. Its too boxy, has very little curves and looks very 80'ish but thats not to say its ugly. On the contrary i love the look of the FC, but when you compare it to all the new cars out there it just doesent stand out. You would need a new paint job, body kit and some nice rims to make it stand out. But really guys who the **** cares as long as it looks good to the owner and those who love the cars like us tahts all the really matters

FC LOVE BABY!!

RylA thats why I dislike body kits for FC's. You say they make the car look newer... but they are all rounded off and dont follow the lines of the car. Looks so stupid IMO.

Not really modern looking..no. It can still be made to "fit in" though, with a new paint job and some nice wheels maybe. It is an older design for sure, and the boxy look is pretty damn obsolete. I dont care tho, i love my car and i wouldn't ever trade it in for a new one.
Personally i love the look of my s4. I was thinking about getting the s5 tail-lights and trying to update the styling of my car..but to hell with it. My s4's got this badass oldskool look that im gonna try and preserve. Its all about the 80's man (..even though i grew up in the late 90's)
