Hi guys, I was planning to resolder the joints on my logicon and noticed theres some orange colored gunk on it. What can I use to clean this stuff off that won't damage the board?

 

is it all gooey and stuff? That might be electrical grease/ glue.

 

No, it's hard and dry. It appears mostly around the solder joints.

 

Solder flux from manufacture. Wouldn't worry about it. Ethanol is pretty good for cleaning it if you do.

 

Like Alexdimen said, its called Flux.

Its used to "make sure" the solder will "Stick" to the joint/point on the PCB.

Just FYI, if you find crusty colored stuff coming from/surrounding the bottom of a capacitor, replace it. Hell, you might at well replace any electrolytic capacitors on the board just in case. After 20yrs, they tend to rupture and leak/lose capacitance.

 

It was mostly around the solder. Turns out it's my air mix motor. Thought I was going to get a break, go figure. I was reading about the removal of it and people mention a pain in the *** wire that needs to be disconnected. Is it that thick wire that is attached to the back of the logicon?
