Opinions on TID & AFM

I had my buddy build me a TID for the car since the stock one took a dump. After putting the AFM back we realized that the filter wasnt going to fit and it was going to be too much to go back to his shop and chop up the TID to make the filter fit so i cut up the filter element and covered the hole, cut a rubber coupling in half and slid it over the cut filter element and clamped it down with a hose clamp. The car runs a little stronger due to the TID now and still runs right with the cut filter. Any opinions on it..... Will i develope any problems running the car like this?

That filter is about the worst thing you could do. Filtering is all about surface area, and your filter would have maybe 5% of the area of an average-sized filter. That means the velocity through the filter is about twenty times faster than it should be. Not only is that a significant restriction, it'll clog up very quickly making things even worse.

Plus IMO that TID is a wasted effort. With those two very tight 90deg bends it'll only work marginally better than stock.

Pretty much bad all round sorry (you did ask for opinions). At least the AFM's level...

the filter is only temporary till i can get the TID back to his shop and trim it a little so i can fit a regular filter. I just didnt want anything getting in there for the time being and i wanted the AFM sitting straight.

that is the exact setup I am going to run for an fmic... what intercooler did you use and where are the outlets located on it? Side, top, back, front. Also do you have a throttle adapter right before the bov?

If you want we can pm back and forth... sorry for all the questions I am just really interested in that exact setup.

Thanks man I will be doing a setup almost completely identical to that. I wanted to keep the battery in stock location... not to mention I have that exact same autocraft battery. Who did you piping and how much did it cost?

When you say "trim it a little" I hope you mean throw it away and start from scratch. The workmanship looks okay, so I'm sure you can come up with something that doesn't have two very restrictive bends and also allows you to fit a properly sized filter.
