opinions on gasket replacement

Guys,
I picked up an 87 S4 Turbo II. 69,000 original miles. All stock except a cat back. It has developed an exhaust leak at the block to turbo manifold. After performing a smoke test from the tailpipe, I have found numerous small leaks in the rusty pre cat and main catalytic converter systems. My plan is to delete the pre cat with a 2.5 " downpipe and connect to a new main catalytic converter section. The car also has a racing beat power pulse cat back. Doing my research if I hit fuel cut then I can add a restrictor plate if needed. What is the best method on tackling the gasket replacement? Pull motor or remove the intake manifolds to get to that part of the block to replace?

Thanks,
G

its not much fun if the car is stock, but the turbo comes off with the engine in the car. you'll find the turbo gasket is dead, and if you're not lucky turbo manifold will be cracked in half
air pump and ACV need to come off, and then turbo is kind of right there.

Car looks familiar... Previously belong to Rick P ? Car looks great. You can unbolt the turbo while the engine is mounted in the engine bay. Be sure to get the expensive Stainless gasket set from Mazdatrix/Atkins, well worth it.
Hope you enjoy the car!

Relisys,
Yes. Picked it up from Rick. Standup guy to say the least. Good people for sure. Thanks for the reply.
