opinion needed

hi im new to the forums and i have been looking at a lot of rwd cars recently, mainly ive been looking at the 240sx but until i saw this car i have been interested in the rx7, i was wondering if this was a good deal http://www.craigslist.org/sby/car/15621379.html
, i checked out the car this sunday and it drove fine, no rust, interrior was near perfect and the engine bay was clean. but i am concerned with the engine, there doesnt seem to be any problems but the guy claimed the engine was rebuilt/serviced 4k miles ago but has no paperwork to prove it, he owned the car for about 1k miles and was using it as a temp car until his wrx was fixed, to cut to the chase i was wondering if there was anyway of proving this engine was rebuilt and if this car from the ad appears to be a good deal, thanks for your time

oh yea and the rx7 has 166k on the odo

Compression check.

A rebuilt with 4k miles on it should be way high compression, like 120+

I'm not into paying premium prices for NA's, especially a Zenki model even with the pretty paint.

Rebuilt motor with no receipts?&nbsp I'd be suspicious.&nbsp If a reputable shop did it, get the contact info and call the shop for reference.

I wouldn't pay more than $2,000 for the car.&nbsp Rotaties are a pain to SMOG, especially in Cali.

It sounds like the owner is trying to recoup his loses from the paint job and (alleged) rebuild work.

Yeah, every time that I need a beater as a temporary car for a few weeks I always spend $2,000 to rebuild the engine, $1,500 on a paint job, and install a $300 stereo. In fact, I usually completely restore the car so I can sell it at a huge loss. Yeah, that's it.

thanks for the advice, yea i was getting the vibe that he got the paintjob so he could sell the car at a higher price, but he also said he wasent planing to sell it when he bought it he was gonna install a supercharger in it but changed his mind because he didnt have the funds and his wrx was finally fixed. well im gonna have a mechanic take a look at it and if he determines theres plenty of life on the engine ill probably go for it.

Also research the VIN to see if the car is stolen. The seller is obviously full of it. Hopefully the car is good and he is just selling it to get crack money.
