open hole on tranny???????

OK SO THIS WEEKEND I WENT TO CHANGE MY TRANNY FLUID, SWITCHED IT OVER TO A SYNTHETIC, AND WHEN I WAS UNDER THERE I NOTICED A HOLE THAT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS MISSING A BOLT OR A PLUG. THE HOLE IS RIGHT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TRANNY AND IS ABOUT 8-10" CLOSER TO THE ENGINE THAN THE DRAIN PLUG. I HAVE NO CLUE WHY THAT WOULD BE OPEN, I FELT UP INSIDE IT AND IT ALMOST FELT LIKE A GEAR OR SOMETHING. I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THIS IS BUT I HAVEN'T NOTICED ANY FLUIDS LEAKING OUT OF IT. DO YOU GUYS HAVE ANY CLUE ABOUT THIS? THANKS!

Nah, there's a plate on the bottom of the bellhousing for that. That hole is for ventilation and to facilitate heat dissipation.

Turbo's have a nice plate there, N/As have a 1-1/2" or so hole... there is a rubber plug that goes in there. The gear you're feeling is the flywheel.

That hole is the inspection hole. There should be a rubber plug covering it up. If there isn't, get one from Mazda as all the crap that finds it's way in there is very bad for the clutch.
