ooh stuff noobiage.

Oooh k. So I currently own a 96 mustang GT and I want something a lil more pimp and a lighter such as an 88 turbo II. I don't know much about rotary engines so I am asking your guys help on what to look for in a used car. I have 3 I am looking at- #1http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e=&cardist=129
#2 http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ice=&cardist=6
#3http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/car/230122895.html
So help me out what are things I need to look for and what would you chose? I really like the grey and white ones, the chrome wheels on the black one has gotta go but it looks cherry. Its gotta be turbo because I'm not going form a v8 to a 1.3 NA no thanks
I need some **** and get hehehe. Thanks for the help!

I did not mean to offend any NA people but common turbo is fun. My friend just got an 88 turbo II with a t3-4 on it and it blows my ******* mind that thing pulls the **** out of my car and it’s just a blast to drive. It has insane lag though it won’t spool till like 4k. But after driving it I was like oh to hell with the mustang (yes there is still a place in my hear for mustangs so kill me but I also had a VW MKIII golf and still love those too). Please give some kind of input.

wow.............the ricer drift scene made the prices of FCs skyrocket!!!!!!!!!!! hahahaha I guess ricers are good for something.

and I would not pay that much for an S4............it sucks because you could have gotten an turbo FC for 3K before the ricer fad took over.

Everyone, please leave your comments to yourself in the lounge, it is not needed in this section.

Honestly, shift, follow the link balck91 gave, it will show you everything you need to know about buying one of these cars.

Overpriced is relative. 2nd gen guys on this forum can be cheap.

If you want a Turbo II that is more pimp than a Mustang, you are going to have to go to Autotrader and spend the $6-8k that regular people with stock super low mileage T2's want. There are very few nice, unmolested or barely modified cars on this forum.

If you're trying to pull chicks, they won't know what the hell an rx-7 is. A 2nd gen Rx-7 is pretty much a guy's car that mainly car guys will appreciate.

Are you going to try and daily drive a turbo II? You're asking a lot out of an 80's car. Get a beater or something, or get a T2 with 50k miles on it. I am currently daily driving my modified 88 T2 (b/c my nonturbo 88 is down with a bad tranny) and there's always something to worry about. If you get a stock T2, it's not going to be any faster than your Mustang GT (they run like a 15.1-15.2 usually), and when you start modding them you just need to be careful with it so you don't damage anything.

If you want a T2 as a daily driver, don't be cheap, don't halfass it, and still be prepared to wrench on the thing regularly.

Dont mind these people. A good percentage of the FC crowd is young and will bash people for having a mustang or any other piston engine. Just ignore them and keep your cool.

As for your original question, read the link on buying an RX-7 and go from there. If possible, take the car you like best out of those 3 to a rotary shop in your area. They can test the compression and will give you a good idea of the vehicles condition. If you can't do this, just go over the car like you would with any other car. Take it for a drive and use your best judgement on it. Dont be alarmed if the tranny shifter feels very loose and wobbly. Bad shifter bushings are common on these cars and can be fixed for a few dollars in just a few minutes. Its easy.

If youre still not sure about the car, take some pictures of the engine bay from various angles and post them up here. We can look for anything weird and let you know about it. Also post pictures of the interior and exterior to give you a better idea of the cars condition.

I wouldnt say TurboIIs are not good daily drivers. I drove mine every day with no problems and I had some mods done to it. The gas mileage sucks but it comes with the territory. It may not be the best choice for a daily driver but it works. The car is old and things will need to be replaced sooner or later. Try getting the best condition TurboII you can afford to avoid some headaches. These cars went up in price alot and its hard to get one in good shape for cheap.

they're turbo conversions, not t2.

I have a vert and coupe, and one gets used daily.

Just go here as well: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/frequently-asked-questions-2nd-generation-rx-7-faq-fc-494667/

Check in out thoroughly. If you're familiar with mechanics, the only thing different (in general terms) is the engine.

So just take care and enjoy.

(and a personal note, find a vert. if lucky, find a turbo vert. more style)

Thanks allot for the input guys. I do realize how old these cars are, I’m not afraid of doing work on cars. When I had my 97 VeeDub I had to change almost everything on it. I have a shop here on base (yep I'm in the army) and they have car lifts so it makes working on cars easy. And no I am not trying to pick up chicks in it I can do that without the car I just like cars that stand out form the crowd and are fast hehe. Not that I would ever abuse that speed on the roads..... Oh and sorry about the cursing I am to use to another forum that beeps them out.
