Question one more question...convertible targa top??

Hey guys,

So this car I am thinking of getting is a convertible with a targa top. I have never heard of these. How is your experience with these? Rumors? Etc.

I was wondering if there was a company out here in the bay area, CA that does custom work. I wanted to get a removal hard top- like the miatas while still maintaiining the TTops.

Thanks again

Oh geez..if you want a hardtop get a coupe. The aerodynamics of the rx7 top is very well design. When you get a removal hard top, where are you going to put the top?. Also, did you know the top have a built in rollcage and also stiffens the chasis.

Thanks. This is going to be my first rotary. It's hard decision to make. I want the T-Top and not the hard top.

I was just concerned about the windnoise and overall stability of the convertible portion.

BTW, are these rare?

they are rare in that not too many were made, but not rare enough to be all that special. i actually see more verts around overall than coupes but that may just be how it is in houston. windnoise is not bad at all, not as quiet as a coupe but not loud at all. verts have great suspensions, stock they handle a little bit better than the coupes b/c a better suspension design and wider wheels. they have good brakes, 4 piston calipers up front and vented rear brakes. the vert would of been an awesome car with more power, it weights 250 to 300lbs more than a coupe...power is its only downfall but if you dont mind having a slow, good looking ride then go for it. i get compliments on my 91 vert all the time, people really like them. and from a driver's standpoint its a really fun car to throw around curves, just dont get in a race with anything more than 130hp and your good haha.

No, they are not too rare. The convertible has a hard suspension like the turbo II. The windblocker reduces the wind noise from out side. While the vert is the slowest of all vert, its a fun car.

The verts all have a targa top, Like myself most either have the top up or down. The targa is removable front section, and stores in the trunk not in the back (made that mistake), mazda made it stiff to allow for this. Some Vert owers don't know this. Looking at them on the highway they don't puff out (sucked out actully) like the mustang and camero do. As for noise their as loud has having the windows down. I've found that the wind dam is not very good, to small. It still turns heads and they can't believe that it's 16 years old !!! Love the handling but can't comment on the performance my has been turbozied.

windblocker is not good??? it rocks...I have driven many convertibles and almost none of them were as good as the 7 windblocker....I can talk at normal level up to 100mph with the bocker up...with the targa section removed, the wind is stronger than with the top down plus it does not look that great...its either top up or down for me....the first thing you shoudl chaneg are the stock rims...they are nice(when in goood condition) but too small...I have 18" and I coudl still go up to 19" or 20"...next is the turbo conversion...nothing like a turbo convertible!!!!!

THe ride in the vert is awesome, cant complain about it, and the chasis feels alot better than the coupe, and if you wanna feel how strong the chasis really is, compare it with anycar out there with a targa top, especially any supra....not to mention that with the top up, my fat *** can stand on the part right after the targa ends, and chill there and it will not bend or nothing. I give props to mazda for the verts design, its a very well rounded package, from the seats, to the radio, to the brakes, suspension.. The only thing they messed up in, they shoulda brought the verts from japan...but you woulda seen 30k+ dollars on the window stickers.. And the 90-91 verts where the best design yet...apart from the afore mentioned, the stalks where on the steering wheel, no need to get out of the car to put down the top, and the whole thing was automated, except for pushing the button for the targa to go down...I dont know if the 88's have this, but on the 91's you put the targa in the back instead of the trunk, I might try this later on, but I dont remember seeing anything that you could clik the targa into...plus they have subs on the floor behind the seat...

Why do you guys keep calling it a "targa top". A targa top comes in porsches and supras, etc. The vert is a vert. I don't know wtf you guys are talking about!

lol, I just finished my TII swap......TII engine and entire drivetrain including a subframe swap( much easier than tearing it apart and redoing it piece by piece).

Any of you guys got pics of the top up, with the targa section removed by any chance?

I love the verts but haven't seen it before... In fact I only found out you can do that a couple weeks ago.

and all Fc convertibles are Targa tops as well.

Targa references to the ability to remove the roof over the driver and passengers with no side pieces left over the doors, but still retaining a rear section.
