How much time do I have left?

Engine smokes at startup after sitting..can clearly smell oil burning when engine is running, afterburn is increasing, etc.

Also - is there a difference is cost in getting a shop to rebuild vs. replacing the engine?

if you fear the motor is going to go out soon, and you can go ahead and have it rebuilt, then go ahead and do it. if a seal breaks then there is a good chance that it will chew up the rotor housing and also could damage the rotor. price of rebuild goes up

any chance that it could just be a malfunctioning MOP giving it more oil than necessary?

probably not ^. Any ways Does it smoke constantly or just on start up or coming down from high RPM? If it smokes all the time then your close. If not then you can defintaly go longer. I drove a smoker for a year and a half. Remember they will drive forever as long as you keep adding oil, don't let it get low, keeo a close watch on it. If it is smoking a lot and constantly then I would say get that rebuilt within the next month or so.

nope, smokes only when it has sat around for more than 12 hours or so. Occassionaly will smoke is I rev up in neutral, but doesn't smoke at all during normal driving once the engine is warm

You might want to confirm it's the oil seals first...

Rev engine up to 4kRPM and hold for 15-20 seconds.&nbsp If your oil control o-rings are bad, the exhaust will start to smoke.

yeah it does that -- added some non smoke stuff to the oil and that helps but untreated it does indeed smoke when revved up above 4K in neutral

Oil

I'm also a lil concerned about how much time I have left on this engine. Mine smokes when it starts up, and used to smoke on the upshift, but as best I can tell that stopped after I did the ATF trick (does that makes sense)

I check my oil fairly regularly, and mosts times it will make it to the next 2500 oil change without needing more (although I give it a lil to be safe)

Should I start planning (and saving) for a rebuild, can it wait?
