omp problem
omp problem
ok i had three engine codes for my 90 na,a 8:afm,10:afm,and a 20:omp. i replased the afm with a used one to fix the 8 and 10 codes but the 20 code is suposed to be a position sensor for the omp . i have no idea whare this is and i dont have a facotory service manual.
is it on the omp or someware else?
can i fix it?
is it a common ground prob or what?
the car wont run until this is fixed. help me please

Lemme guess, if you reset the ECU by taking the positive cable off the battery and hitting the brake pedal... the car will start, idle and rev in neutral just fine, but as soon as you put a load on it, it falls on its face and the check engine light comes on.....
Correct??
If so.... Your OMP may have taken a crap.... and the ECU went with it.
before you do anything else.... Take your ECU out, Open it up and look at the circuit board.. if there is a big brown burn mark in the middle of one of the boards...................
I've seen this five tims now on cars that i bought for a couple hundred bucks cause they exhibited these symptoms and the owners did everything they could think of, replaced everything, expecpt the ECU, and the car was still a helpless wreck....
When the OMP goes, a lot of times it forms a direct bridge acroos the electrical connection and allows too much amperage to hit the ECU and fries it.......

it acts as if its in cripple mode and the light comes on as soon as i fire it up . the motor wont rev at all it just bogs and dies, i can force it to rev but it runs horibly .

Reset the ECU by taking the positive cable off and hitting the brake pedal (bleeds the current off and dumps the memory... only works on s5 cars) and see if it will idle and rev in neutral, the egnine light should also go out after its rest
Once you reset the ECU, it should run normally until it gets a fault signal, usually when you give it a load
.... If the ECU will not reset... its probably fried...
