okay, transmission: do I really need this?

okay, transmission: do I really need this?



the snap ring busted and that thing doesnt spline to anything.

my guess is that is pushes some of the oil towards the back of the tailshaft of the transmission.

check the FSM, I think its the dynamic damper just looking at the diagram, but its hard to tell exactly from the pic. I've never had one of these apart yet.

It does say to replace snap rings. I don't think I would chance it personally, why risk ruining a trans for a little snap ring?

well I dunno if i can get a snap ring in time

id just remove it completely then.

cause the snap ring is fucked up.

sure you can. At least for the time it will take you to get a new part. I drove my first car for 2 years without a speedometer.

yeah but i dont want not have a spedometer OR drop the trans to take the tail shaft off again.

its just that snap ring thats fubared.

TX Dynamic Daper?

What does the Dynamic Damper do and is it really important? cause it is the only thing stopping me from putting my transmission back on with a new extension housing.

That IS the speedo drive gear and living in the Chicago area you should be able able to get a replacement snap ring from multiple sources.
Hell, most ACE Hardware stores carry a reasonable selection of rings, take your broken one with you and match it.
