okay, i've wondered long engouh

I have a sticker on the back of my car, that is gold, and said somethin about GXL and GTU. Anywhoo

My car is an 87 X. I am here trying to find out what X equals. I have 4 piston breaks. moon roof, a/c no rear wiper. Bins in the back, 15" wheels. the "Balloon cutters" what else...one piece cloth seats. And....a rubber spoler.. Thanks alot guys!

You have a Canadian Car, so most of the below guesses will not apply.
My guess is GX. They tended to come with all sorts of different options from the factory.
You bets bet is to call the dealership and have them run your VIN.

All RX-7s used to come with one like this since around 83 or 84 I think...They stopped in 88.


Sure wish I could find one somewhere

It sounds like a '87 Sport. They were like GXL's (5 lug, 4 piston, etc) but without the extras like rear wipers and leather. Does it have headlight washers. They also came with a black rubber wing, and small black rubber side skirts in front of the wheels. If it's not a sport, it's either a GXL with a new rear hatch etc, or a GX with the big break conversion and the original sun-roof as an option. Don't pay too much attention to the sticker on the back of your car. They are easy to change, and if there has been any bodywork done, they will have put a new sticker on. Just 'cause there is an "X" there now doesn't mean that it left the factory that way. GXL's also had stickers behind the front wheels. Call in the VIN to be sure.

You wrote above that they stopped putting the deacl on as of the '88 model. My '91 has it.

yeah I didn't see any on the late 89 (may 89) and later cars from the factory, so I am wondering if you got a 88 hatch on your car. Was the hatch replaced at some point??? Maybe the dealer just had some extra stickers.

The decal was always a year off (early). For example on my 87 Sport it had one that said "86", while my Dad's 88 GTU has one like yours with a "87" on it.

But I do remember seeing a 89 at a dealer with an 88 on the sticker, on it... even though the RX-7 was "de-emphized" in the GTU racing in late 88 (sadly replaced with the MX-6) for the 89 season.

It could be a replacement hatch on my '91.

Both of my '87s said '86. Just like you wrote... "A year off".

The one on my gray '87 was removed, against my wishes, when the windows were tinted in 2001. I'd bet that most people lost theirs the same way. If I could get one, I'd have the tint removed and reinstalled after I stuck the sticker on

My 86 had a sticker like that on it when I bought it. I didn't know it came like that from the factory. I just figured somebody had put it on there sometime in the past. Mine was all cracked and partially peeled off, so I removed it after I bought the car. Kind of makes me wish I had kept it on there now.

Let me guess. since its on the BACK of the car, its on the left as you look at the rear. Since you have a S4, '87,
that is a sticker right?
hehe.
I know what it used to say. It used to say RX-7. Back then the RX-7 logo on the back was a sticker. the only way you will know which RX-7 style it is is by the logo on the front fenders if it has any.
Just got to thinkin about the whole back of the car thing.

????? What are you talking about????

The sticker that was posted above came on the rear window/hatch from Mazda to commemorate the IMSA GTU class manufactures championship wins. It has nothing to do what so ever with the model of the car other than it being an RX-7, such what raced and won the championships.

Not sure what you are babbling about.

I after reading your post a couple of times I see what you are trying to say... But I think you missed that he said:

He doesn't mean there is a sticker on the car that says "X". He is using X as in an unknown... Like an algebraic equation.

What is X? The X in his case is a Sport... The only sticker he was talking about was the GTU win one talked about up top in this thread.

Does anyone have a 10Best sticker?

Does anyones car have a car and driver 10 best sticker? My car is an 88 T2 and it says "1987 RX-7 turbo 10 best).

my friends 88 t2 doesnt have it, and havent seen anyone elses. It is on the rear hatch
