Gang,
I just put my '87 TII on the jack stands and got underneath to look at the front differential mount and drive shaft.
the mount is just fine.
however, I can hand-twist the drive line about 1/4 inch each way without the moving the driveaxels.
This seems like the source of the clunk when I shift, or transition from accelerate to coast or vice versa.
Could it be bad inner CV joints? Or is it likely I've got something serious in the differential?
THX!

i guarantee if you take down your front differential mount you will find out that it is broken. Same thing happened to me...it was actually the second one that i had broke but anyways it was broken on top and couldnt see any damage from underneath until i took it off.

Still, I'm concerned about the play in the rear end. Should I be able to rotate the driveshaft 1/2 inch without moving the wheels?
