Ok, so I was out driving, and my car died.

I was going through the metro parks at like 5000 rpm, no boost, and like 25mph or so (2nd gear).. and when i let off, i had no power, throttle did nothing but bring me out of vacuum, when i finally rolled to a stop the car stalled, and would not restart.

tried to restart, nothing.. it would turn over then it sounded like it was trying to start.. but wouldnt. let it cool down for like 20 mins, then tried again.. same deal.

so i had the car towed to my house, and it still wont start.

i just topped off the tank like 3 miles before this happened, nothing wrong at the time. this was out of the blue, and it was on a relativly new rebuild (1k miles)

any suggestions?! im really scared here.

Alternator, I had the same problem, and it sounds like the alternator. take the alt. out and get the alt. checked somewere, and they'll prolly tell you diodes are bad, then get em to rebuild it. and if thats not the problem, then I would check all of the alt. cables and stuff like that

good luck man

What are you doing at 5000 rpm on a 1k mile rebuilt engine. Isnt the break in period several thousand miles.

Your engine probably flooded. It is common for freshly rebuilt engines to flood and they also build more compression as they are driven more.

the breakin period can be as long as you want it to be, landers says 2k miles. other people say diff things.

Do you have fuel coming to the rails ??

Assuming you have spark, check if fuel goes to the fuel rail.

You may want to look at this thread in archive. The whole thing or just the bit on fuel:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=27438

You could also do this to check fuel pump:

Jumper the yellow connector near passenger side shock tower, turn key to on position.
Do you hear fuel pump ? You certainly should.

You may want to check your fuel delivery using FSM procedure (free at www.fc3s.org under how-to->manual->86-88, section about fuel and emissions)
or Haynes less elaborate procedure.

BTW, if it was the alt, the idiot lights would have lit up. and in any case, the car would have kept going until the battery completely discharged.

If the alternator died all his cluster lights would have came on.

Any smoke at all when you are trying to start or any smoke out the exhaust just after you stalled?

If the Idiot lights all come on while the car is running, then you have a malfunctioning alternator. Your voltage test also backs that up..

No worries with the key just on and car not running.

Compression test, quit screwin around with other stuff and find out if you've even got a good base to start with.

Unscrew one spark plug from each rotor and place a finger infront of the hole while someone turns the car over. You should feel the pulses with no pauses

That made my day.

Should be 3 strong even pulses. not just a wussy little "ppoohh".

BTW - Lead plugs only.
