ok----running out of options!!

OK----here we go again.....I have an 86 GXL that is all stock. I have done the searches. I have tested out everything from compression to spark to fuel. My car stalled while driving, and it has not started since. I KNOW it is flooded....the plugs are drowning there is so much fuel. I have tried all the unflooding tricks except ATF and tow-starting it. I figured that it is not the basic flooding problem since it happened while I was driving and not when I tried to start it.

I know that the compression is good enough. I know that I am getting spark. I replaced the afm and as far as I can tell that is working. I just put everything back together after cleaning the injectors, and still no change. I was told that the ECU is probably bad, but I am getting air, spark, and fuel(though too much fuel).....

PLEASE let me know where I should be looking!! I am down to just aq couple things--ECU, FPR, or fuel pump.....HELP!!!

well i would suggest trying the ATF trick just to get it start and see if it floodes again and if it does try getting new injectors or yours rebuilt

If its flooding out that bad while you are driving, you need to change the injectors

Tow it at 4k in second gear. If it doesnt start or wont stay running you should start looking for a new ecu.

Edit: If he had his injectors cleaned they should have flow tested them. They would not send the injectors back w/o telling him they need to be replaced.

here's the thing--injectors are supposed to be the low-impedance ones--1.5-3 ohms.....but they all measure between 10-12 ohms. And they are NOT the wrong injectors....the high impedance ones have different wiring plugs. They were just cleaned also. This was the only time I have had this problem, so I am more inclined to think it is somethign that just broke/malfunctioned as opposed tosomethign that is out of adjustment. I don't know what the ohm measurement means either--can someone tell me?

this place would

Some cars have a resistor pack between the ecu and the injectors so that the ecu doesn't read 12-14 ohms

where is this resistor pack and how do you test it?

regardless of the injector issue, take the 5 minutes and $2.00 to put the fuel cut off switch in. Makes a big difference when your trying to restart from a flooded engine regardless of the cause.

dude, first eliminate all the easy stuff, make SURE you dont have to go out and spend an arm and a leg to fix it, like push starting it. mine did that one day... it wouldnt start for ****, i had no idea what was wrong... tried using my cutoff switch and all, but nothing... it might of had low voltage but i dont remember, anyways i push started it and that solved the problem. not sure why exactly it did that, but later on i replaced my fouled out plugs, and that got rid of some startup smoke and it started much easier.

If the ecu is seeing the high imp signal from the injectors it will eventually blow. That is more than likely your problem.
