ok guys, got a weired Q here and little info need some advise from the best......

here is the situation:

my friend has found an 88 n/a rx-7 for sale for $300. He askes me to go check it out for him, which i do...........
ok so i get there and start talking 2 the owers brother about the car (the owner wasn't there this is y there is a lack of info), he say it has a fuel problem and they got an estamint for a guy at napa (which owns 2 2nd gen rx-7) saying that it would cost nearly a grand to get fix (he did not know if this included labor r not)

but when i opened the hood of the car it reeked the gas bad (threw away the cig just to be a little more safe)i'm guessing its flooded to ****, (unless someone else can think of something that it might be)
the brother also told me he got a compression test done and it was good (don't remeber the numbers he gave me, but i remeber agreeing with him that they were good)

another problem is the cars has been sitting there for atleast 6 months without being ran, i know this is not good for the motor, any precauction i should take before tryin to start it (i am going to be doing all the work on it)atf?, inject motor oil in to the rotors?

all help is apreaciated (<-sp??)

-Shawn

i am asking this all this because i owe this guy big and i wanna pay him back for the help he gave me

simple. DONT START IT. If it reeks of gas so badly, it's more than likely a punctured fuel line under the intake, or a faulty pd, don't want a fire now do you? Figure out the source of the smell first, i'd hate to hear of you talking about the rx7 you just flamed Maybe a small ammount of oil into each leading plug but not too much, but make sure you figure out the gas smell first. It's more than likely a PD (not expensive fix) I can't see any fuel problem costing $1000 though....

i know thats what got me (unless the labor is included, then mabe) on the 1000, he did not by it yet but he is tomorrow, and i should start working on it by the end of this month ( i told him he had to clean it first and get the smell outta the inside) i am also currently downloading the fsm for it (the only one i have is for the 89+ for my car)

well, I'm more than betting it's a PD issue, and with dealership parts it might just cost that much to fix But regardless, I can't imagine it being anything worse. If the car is fine otherwise, I think he's in for a deal!

well to tell u the truth if i still had my 87se i would buy the car just for parts (these cars r vary rare here, i only seen five with in a 40 mile radious from my house including mine), it has minor front, passenger side damage (and a rust spot there now)

btw, the interior is almost perfect, just need a new shift boot

thanks for the advise SonicRat

not a problem, I hope it's a simple PD fix, always good to pickup a running vehicle as opposed to a non-running! :]
