is it ok to disconnect the TPS?

Mine always gets out of adjustment. Makes for some bad hesitation at idle.
Can I just leave it like that or should I get another one as soon as possible?
The only difference I see are that my check engine light is on and my A/F gauge doesn't work anymore.

Thanks

No, you cannot disconnect your TPS. I accidentally forgot to plug it in one time, and as soon as you step on the gas the car about ***** itself, it bucks and almost dies.

Not true it can work with the tps disconnected, most cars will not run but some cars will run with it disconnected. My car runs well with it off dunno why it just does...

ive seen a fc run without it...but it backfired constantly...like rhthymatically (sp, even if thats a word)...would back fire constantly on decceleration...think maybe it messes with ecu since it cant tell where throttle is and makes it run excessively rich..i dunno....but it ran fine...just alot of popping.

from my readings on the subject due to the S4's stupid 1/4 throttle travel TPS.... it seems as though the computer uses it to determin what enrichment curve to use. when the throttle is over 1/4 it runs it at max power and when its lower it leans it out for economy.

this is what I'm guessing anyways. with the tps not plugged in it probably just runs max power all the time. (causing no drivability problems other than a bit more fuel consumption)

CLARIFICATION!

s4 cars can run without a TPS, and it will affect nothing, usually. I ran my stripped s4 turbo without one for 9 months, and it didnt change the a/f readings either. or fuel economy. THe computer seems to use the AFM exclusively to calculate fuel.

s5 cars CAN NOT, repeat CAN NOT run without the TPS for very long at all. This is because the TPS is responsible for controlling things like your electric oil metering pump, as well as the anti-flood startup feature. ITs ok to do test runs without it, but leaving it off is like turning off your OMP...not a good idea.

kevin, Got any S5 tps's for cheap? And will they run the S4 computer properly without alteration of the circuitry?

I've been wanting to swap them because of the poor utilization of the s-afc's throttle position settings with such little adjustablility. even if it wont work I still want the switch (or a pot similar to it) for a second TPS to connect to the s-afc.

GOt an s5 t2 version on ebay..

I have no freakin clue. I just wouldnt wanna be the man to try and make it work. ****, these bitches are hard enough to set when using the right part, much less trying to make it work with something else.

even if it wont work I still want the switch (or a pot similar to it) for a second TPS to connect to the s-afc.
Well, if you want the t2 one let me know. I will take it off ebay and sell it to you, $60 shipped. IF it doesnt get up there on its own during the auction, I will of course kill it early cause those s5 t2 parts are rare...

Not to disagree with you or anything, but on my S4 N/A when I left it disconnected by acident, the car absolutely did not run right. As soon as I stepped on the gas the car bogged and almost died. Also the revs would bounce somewhat when I was on throttle also.

It could also effect the ignition advance the ecu produces for different load conditions...

Rxmfn7, How well does that re-chipped ecu work for ya?

Kevin, I looked at the pic of that thing and don't think it'll work for me. Do you have any S5 n/a ones?

koukifc3s......if disconnected, it WILL effect the fuel injection amount, a/c relay, relief solenoid, aws and asv valves, bac, trail and lead ignition timing. Outside of that, your good to go! reference page F2-74 of the free online factory service manual.
