Oil Sending Unit Leaking?

Okay well i just got my 91 vert outta the shop like 30mins ago. Anyways it needed a new clutch. So he calls to twll mw that i need a new master cylinder and slave cylinder. BEcause he cant get it into gear and he checked all tehm out and they had rust iun both.

Well i thought i had a leak in my oil cooler line and it turns out its my OSU and it leaking onto the line and running down it.

IS this common and how much shoulld be? I know it appears to be a easy fix. AND i just paid 1000 bucks to get that done alone so i need some advice if any have any out there.

1. $1000 for a clutch job? Dear god...

2. When you push the clutch pedal, does the slave cylinder move? If it moves the normal distance out (1 to 2 inches or something), then it's not your hydraulics that are the problem (at least for now... rust is never good).

3. Oil Sending Unit = Oil Pressure Sender...? If so, I kind of doubt that's normal.

Hey Blake. Dude I came across this thread cuz I was wondering about my Oil Sending unit (or whatever its called) too! It's weird, but in the past couple days I have noticed a significant drop in oil pressure (of course I keep the oil topped off regularly) and there seems to be a slow leak. This problem seems to have appeared in the last 4 days or so. Could this be my OSU also??

Damn, if its not one thing its another! And I still am trying to figure out why she doesnt like to start up when cold!

Mine is leaking oil as well. Does someone happen to know the part number for the oil pressure sender? I just changed the part in my FD, but I'm getting a headache trying to find it in the '88 parts catalog. This is for my '88 Turbo.

Thanks!

The Mazda part number for the Oil Pressure Gauge Unit is

N201-14-820

The part number is the same between the N/A and turbo cars, at least for S4.

It could also be the oil filter pedastal o-rings leaking. Feel under the filter pedastal and see if its oily. Try this if it is (hope the link still works?):

When I started working on RX-7's, I paid 600 bucks to get my clutch done... and I thought that was a rip off. But, when they were done, I couldn't get it in gear. They said "Well... sometimes it just needs to wear in". I said "uhh.... that doesn't seam right dude". I took it home, did a little research, jacked up the car, removed the tranny, rented a pilot bearing puller for free, replaced the pilot bearing..... put everything back, and it worked perfect.

So.. Pilot bearing? Also, never take your car to clutch doctors. They suck *****. Very shady mechanics.

As far as the sender. I think everybody's nailed it. Replace it?
