Question oil presure sending unit for oil presure gage ?

my oil presure isint reading properly it fluxuates from below 0 to abve 110 i can be at idel and it will read above 110 i can even have the car in the on position with out the engen running and have the needle above 110 un blug the wire from teh sensor and it drops back to below 0 it hangs maby 2 mm below 0 my father siad that this was common wiht older cars to have the gage sage a little bit my machanic said it might be the sending unit and since i got one out of a rx7 in a junk yard for 5 bucks to just go and put in in and see if it makes it work or not

so before i go and get my hands all riped up agian what do your thoughts tell you sending unit bad or gage bad ?

Tap on the sending unit with a screwdriver while she's running, if the gauge starts to behave, you've found the bad guy

The sending units are known to go south over time and from oil contamination. LIke wayne said, tap the unit or "wiggle" the oil pressure guage wire to see if there is a loose connection.

Otherwise replace the unit.

Goodday.
