oil pressure sender thread/pitch?? also, STRIPED OUT!! help!

ohh dear..... well i was getting my na turbo setup ready, and i was going to thread a barbed fitting into the oil pressure sender location, the mushroom shaped thing under the oil filter,
i took the old sender, and got a barb that matched the thread and size, or so i thought...

started screwing the new brass thing in, and it started eating the threads off!!
freaking out i tried to put the old sender back in, but it looks like its not threading in correctly anymore either!!!

i might have damaged the threads on the iron!!! NOT GOOD!!!

is there any way i can repair the threads or get something to thread in there corectly?? ive heard of helicoil and stuff, but i cant tap/drill it out or anything because ill get metal shavings in the oil, which would be a bad thing!! is the oil pressure sender before or after the oil filter??

Most likely, you just gummed up the threads on the iron with brass shavings from your barb. That's the reason it's brass, is that brass is much softer than iron, so that's what strips first. You're going to have to clean it throughyl with a little wire cleaner-style brush. try to slide it in, then work it outwards, so you're actually taking the metal out when you slide outwards.. hopefully you'll minimize the brass shavings going into the engine.

The thread that the sender is is pretty difficult to find a fitting for, unfortunately I wasn't able to find a good, quick source of one. What I did was cut my oil sender apart, (I severed it near the end of the hexagon part), and tapped a hole for my fitting to screw into. That seemed to work well.

Measure the size and thread pitch on the sender fitting with a thread gauge, get a tap of correct metric size, and use the tap to carefully clean up the threads on the block fitting. You can use heavy grease to collect any minor shavings.

get a thread chaser since you only messed up the outer threads. I bet the rest are still in good shape.

As it has been mentioned on this forum many times, it is 1/8" BSP. NPT fittings will not work. Hopefully only the first few threads are damaged. If they're all toast, then you're either stuck finding a thread repair kit in BSP or drilling and tapping to the next larger size which will be very tricky...
