oil in overflow tank

Angry oil in overflow tank

hi guys..

I have an interesting issue. I have an 87T2 with 115k, and she runs strong (I did a lot of work repairing the car - everything but the engine block and turbo).

Well, I have been noticing that there is oil in the overflow tank. When I look at the coolant in the radiator, it looks clear enough. Doesn't look like there is coolant in the oil (how can you really tell anyway?). The oil in the coolant overflow tank sticks to the dip tube and does not stay in the coolant itself. It's not much, but enough to make me worry..

and I don't remember seeing bubble in the overflow tank when the engine is running either...

any input?

Maybe give the whole cooling system a good detergent flush, refill it, and see if the oil reappears.

i agree. what you are seeing is a build up of crap in the coolant system over time. you can take the overflow tank of and clean it good and then put it back on and see.
