Oil out downpipe? Running without a AFM
Oil out downpipe? Running without a AFM
First part
I have never rebuilt a turbo but the turbo on my Jspec seems to be spitting oil right out the downpipe. I dont think any is making it back to the oil pan. Has anyone seen this? It doesnt have much play. Your suggestions.
Second
I have just ran my JSPEC with my complete turbo system for the first time since the TII swap. It starts right up but only stays running and revs up without the AFM connected. I wasnt aware a car would ever do this. Any ideas on the problem? It dies in a few seconds if the AFM is installed but without it the car has good throttle responce and i reved up to about 4k or a little more.

Something is really wrong if the car runs without the AFM plugged in. There is a switch in the AFM that activates the fuel pump after the car starts (initially the system is primed by the ECU when the key is turned to IGN so the car will start). If the fuel pum continues to run even without the AFM there there are wiring issues. Is the test connector at the passenger shock tower jumped?
If you are loosing oil from the downpipe the an oil seal inside the turbo has failed. It will need to be rebuilt. However if this engine has been sitting for a while, let it run and burn off all the extra oil before you decided that the turbine seal is bad.

Ya I had the fuel pump jumpered, the car was shutting off after a short time so i unplugged the AFM assuming it would die just the same and it actually ran well. I will try to let it run a little longer but this is not a little oil it is really dripping out the downpipe in a steady stream when running.
DON'T RUN THE MOTOR ANYMORE!!!!! It is most likely the rear seal on your turbo it will suck all the oil out of the oil pan and it will blow the motor. One of my friends had it happen to him his rear bearing seal went and that was the end of that turbo and engine. My turbo started to barely drip and I replaced it. Seriously either rebuild the turbo or buy a new one, but make sure that the new turbo will work with a rotary. Oh a 60-1 upgrade is a good option thats what I got. Plus it has the capability to support up to 500 hp.

I only have the AFM unplugged because I was troubleshooting the fact that the car wouldnt stay running with it plugged in. Thats my real question, why wouldnt the car stay running with the AFM and then run good without it?
