Oil Leak inside the car? WTF?

A few days ago i notice a oil leak coming from under the dash around the gas pedal area. THe reason i notice is that i had white pants on. The oil that is leaking smells like gear oil. I change my tranny oil a few months ago and i over filled a little bit (alot) because i only had the front of the car up. Could it be that the gear oil is being push through the speedo drive cable? I mean it is on the right side.............. Could it be any thing else that is dumping oil inside my car? ALso how would i fix this? I am planning on taking out the extra oil but would that fix the problem? Did i mess up some seal inside the speedo cable unit? Any opinion is welcome !

Well, I cannot see how gear oil could climb up the speedo cable. Are you sure it is not some type of hydraulic fluid?

could it be your clutch master cyl leaking?? if you think its your speedo cable, reach as far up to the back of your guage cluster and feel around.

Yes, oil WILL climb the speedo cable. That's prolly where it's coming from.

He said it smelled like gear oil, which smells nothing like the hydraulic fluid used in the clutch lines. I'll bet a 99% chance the oil has went up the speedo cable.

Gotta love the smell of gear oil... mmm.. mm... candy!
