Oil leak and boiling coolant....eep!!

I have two problems I hope you guys can help me out with. My car is an '87 TII.

First is the coolant. I don't know if the coolant is boiling per say, but after running the car for a little while coolant starts bubbling out of the overflow tank. The bubbling is caused by steam being blown out of the "overflow tube" (the line that goes through the cap). I am not sure what the problem is but I bought a new mazda oem thermostat and radiator cap so hopefully those will help.

Second is a small oil leak occuring somewhere near the turbo. I can't see exactly where it is coming from but it looks like oil is dripping down onto hot exhaust parts (actuator, that area) and then it burns off. Makes for some blue smoke blowing around at random times. I am guessing that oil may be leaking from the oil line going into the turbo because I had some work done recently on the car and the turbo was removed and put back on. I bought a new gasket for the oil line that goes to the turbo, hopefully that helps.

My question about the oil is this, where could oil be leaking from around the turbo?? I don't think it is an internal leak (seals) because there isn't any blue smoke coming out of the exhaust.

Also the car is backfiring a lot more frequently since I had the car worked on. Any ideas on why there would be an increase in backfiring?

Thanks a lot.

When my coolant started boiling on my first TII, I had found out the inner coolant seals between the housings had broken. Also when I got an oil leak around my turbo once, it ended up being that my turbo fins broke from shaft play and oil busted out.

For the oil leak part, have you checked your turbo out? Internally, check the fins, move it around with your finger and listen for noise, also try to wiggle the shaft around and see how much it gives.

I am not very knowledgable, but I am just applying some of my previous experiences with similar problems.

About backfiring... my cars always backfires. If you are running still a stock downpipe and/or cat the precat/cat could be failing and going with age & heat. Or you could be running richer for various reasons.

i would try and firgure out the coolant problem first. replace the cap, thermostat, check the radiator and make sure coolant is flowing through it, chech the mix of coolant to water ratio. those are the things i started with knowing that in the end i had a seal problem. if yours turns out to be a seal problem when you take the motor apart you'll find the oil leak easier. good luck
