Oil leak
Oil leak
I have a 1988 turbo. Stock except for a small streetport, bonez downpipe, and an HKS cat back. I had pulled my UIM off to fix a fuel leak which turned out to be a fuel line. However, I noticed that there was oil on the top of the engine block, on the bottom of the UIM, and inside the TB. I initially thought that it was the turbo. However, there is no shaft play to the turbo, no oil in the compressor and there is no smoke on or off boost. I am thinking that it may be a bad purge control valve? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

The oil on the top of the block is most commonly caused by leaking metering oil lines.
Oil inside the throttle body is either bypassed from the turbo (normal in small quantities) or from the purge system.
There are testing procedures for the purge system in the Haynes/FSM.

I will check out the manual for the purge system test. There is a decent amount of oil in the TB, enough to drip off of the throttle plates when I handle the UIM/TB. I was thinking that oil was possibly building up in the TB because of a problem with the purge system, then leaking down through the join between the TB and UIM causing the bottom of the UIM and top of the block to be covered with oil. The oil injector lines and oil injectors themselves seemed to by dry, but I could be wrong without having the fuel rails off.
Very true, and I probably will. I am just trying to pinpoint the problem so I wont end up with the same leak when I put the car back together. Just wondering if my thoughts on the problem are feasible.
