Unhappy oil leak

ok so my rex drips oil out of the rear of the engine when it is idling, however as soon as i shut it off, the oil runs out of the engine. everytime i shut the engine off i have to fill the oil pan back up, any ideas on what could cause this.

Can you be a bit more descriptive?

Oil drips from the rear of the engine...Where do you see it exiting from? Is it from the transmission weep hole or inspection hole? Or at the back of the oil pan? Or closer to the oil filter area?

When you shut the car off, does a great blob of oil come from somewhere (doubtful)? If so, where?

Sounds like you may need a rear seal but it's hard to say without more information.

Yesterday, While helping my friend with his new s5 13bT in his TII, we experienced almost the same exact problem. A heavy oil leak out of the rear of the engine near where it meets to the tranny. It only leaks while idleing but stops when we shut the car off. Im very interested in more imformaion on this!

That will probably be the rear seal.

Rear main seal. It's a good excuse to pull the tranny and get an aftermarket clutch in the process.
