Oil filter Q. searched.
I just bought a mazda filter and it apears to have bypass valve.
Im running t2 oil pump and mod. reg.
At start up i get about 80psi at idle and 100psi at 2k rpm. Engine warm 40 psi idle 90 psi wot.
I fear that at startup oil is being bypassed and unfiltered oil entering engine.
Can the factory pedistal be tapped to fit oil press guage, or there is no space? cant seem to find pix of it.

its before the filter. i have mech. oil press installed there.
What i need is pressure reading after filter.
If filter has 10-12 psi restriction then it will bypass oil.

Although, come to think of it, the valve is there to prevent the filter from draining out. So when you start the motor there is oil there straight away instead of waiting for the oil filter to fill up. Not to bypass the filter.

Im talking about a lil pressure regulator inside the filter. (on top of the filter) 10-12psi spring.

i found a nice sandwich plate for 29.99 has fitting after the filter.
I have read that cold startups and drag racing, the valve will open up and dirty oil will bypass, BE AWARE!
Also there r lifetime filters available, with steel mesh. Flow 3 times more then fiber does. $140, but its lifetime. I found one for $89.

Oil filtration is something that works in the long term throughout the OCI. A few moments without filtration are meaningless unless there's crap in your pan.
Bypass valves are designed for clogged filters and cold starts. Which would you rather have: Low oil flow or oil that bypassed the filter? Keep in mind that the bypassed oil is either brand new or has been almost continuously filtered since it was last changed.
