Oil in Engine Problem

Ok I was coming home from a short trip to the twin cities in minnesota back to my place of work in rochester (about 100 miles) and about 10 miles form work my engine popped. I drive a 90' vert with a mazdatrix true dual exhaust on it. 110k miles on the engine and body. i got a ton of smoke (white) when i was still driving especially when i tried accelerating. then i heard another pop. I could only get the car to do about 50 mph top speed once the 2nd pop happend. so i had the car towed home and here it sits.

after furthur inspection and the poor mans compression test i hear a woosh, woosh woosh on both rotors. the rear rotor has a bunch of oil in the chamber. i can get it started once in a while but if i let my foot off the gas it dies at idle. there are no visible oil leaks outside the engine and other than this happening the car had run very well (in the 3 wees since i bought it.)

I allready posted a thread about this and one of the guys on here said it could be an oil control ring. Basically i'm wondering what anybody else is thinking could be wrong, but more or less i'm wondering if i should get the engine rebuilt. and unfortunately i bought the car "as is" so i can't take it back. so i'm really hoping i can fix it without a rebuild but if i need to oh well things happen.

thanks for your help guys. much appriciated.

Matt

Only ways to get oil into the combustion chamber (without something really nasty happening) are the oil control rings & a hole in the rotor. Some might say the OMP could be stuck wide open, something to check out while thinking about the rebuild...You could try some "engine honey" to thicken things up a bit, but with the "pops" you're describing, you should be thinking worst case scenario...

Do you have a check engine light? The OMP will throw a code if it's stuck open, so your CEL will be on.

yeah my engine check light was on i think the day of this happening. but i was a ways away from my house and away form my faters diagnostic tools. Also i was reading a haynes manual, could it be perhaps one of the oil nozzles on the rear rotor has gone bad? because they are one way only type valves and i think i have heard about them going out before.

Oh an what is this mention of engine honey? i'm unfamiliar with that term. thanks guys for the help. it's much appriciated.

*sigh on my 4 day weekend i really didn't plan on ripping my engine apart.* oh well. life happens.

You can always check the codes and see if you've got any errors. If your OMP is bad, it won't let you rev the car at all, you can hardly drive over 3krpm. Check the codes and see how it goes.

His car is a S4, his OMP is mechanical, it will throw no codes and even if it was stuck wide open it would not flow that much oil into the housings.
It really sounds like your oil control rings went. If you're lucky then all you'd need is an O-Ring kit from www.RotaryAviation.com.

*edit* Yeah, I read too fast and didn't see the year of his car. His profile says '87.....anyway.....I guess the OMP could be bad, but I still don't think it'd pump that much oil in.

but perhaps one of my oil inlet valves got messed up and just let oil go in like crazy? i don't know how on or off i could be about this but it's an idea i got form the haynes manual showing a person blowing through the inlet-but only in one direction, possibility being perhaps the valve went bad? i have no idea. i wish i were drunk.
