Hey all, need some advice.
I've got a large streetport 13b with a Garrett T04 and was wondering what oil cooling setup I should run. I plan on tracking it but it'll mainly be a street car to hit up the touge and whatnot. I've been looking into either a single 34 row or a 34 row paired in series with the stock oil cooler. Would a 34 row paired with the stock cooler be too much cooling? Currently only running the stock cooler and have had no major issues, but have seen oil temps creep up to 210 Fahrenheit (possibly more as this was a very long drive during 7s day with an outside temp of about 30 degrees Celsius at some points and I wasn't paying attention to temps as much as I should've). Or should I just keep the stock cooler because I've been reading a lot of good things about the stock cooler. Any input is helpful. Thanks!
Stock cooler works great. On my cars I always removed the stock thermostat in the cooler and plugged it. Mine was just a weekend street car. A lot of my ITS race car customers back in the day actually ran 2 stock coolers.
From all I've read on here the stock cooler is the way to go. Like Rotarybud6 mentioned I have heard of people running two stock oil coolers in their race cars.
where are you measuring the oil temps?
a general recommendation I've seen is that we want to keep the oil --entering the engine (after the coolers)-- at or below 200F
It is very important to understand where you are measuring oil temp. Before or after cooler.
I've always been told that 140 degrees C would be the upper limit, which translates to 280F?
But if you're measuring 130C after the cooler, you're probable be well over 140C in the pan.
So keep that in mind.
I run dual aftermarket oil coolers and I sit around 100-110C at the race track if I recall correctly. And that's measured in the pan.
