I was out stripping my engine compartment in the proccess of my engine swap project. I took off my radiator pulled off the a/c condenser, and right undernieth that was an oil cooler. I didnt know the base model n/a's came with them. Are the stock cooler any good, the thing is pretty big. I thought i was gonna have to buy a new one for my sawp but if the stock is good ill use that

The stock intercooler is perfect in every way. Its the same one on a turbo and a non turbo. There is no need for a bigger one or two oil coolers IMHO.

1/3 of a rotary's cooling comes from the oil,.. so they better have them stock...

heh^ yea I hear that.

My oil cooler is absolutley disgusting. Not only are the lines seeping out oil, but the OMP is ******* leaking too, and after about 2-3 years of not looking into this (previous owner) the oil cooler is ******* clogged on the left side with dirt and oil on the fins... Not only that, but the engine oil wasn't changed for proabably a year and a half, and im sure theres **** stuck on the inside of the cool as well.

When I pull it off it'll be after I get some braided lines, but when I do, I might just have it shipped out to get professionally cleaned, get all the **** out. A new one is about 800$ I think.. don't quote me on that, but I know its expensive.

Get a new set of crush washers for the fittings, and take a good look at the hoses for wear. I was stranded one night last year at 2am when a hose blew b/c it had been rubbing on the straight edge of the rad mount (poor way to describe it - I hammered the damn thing flat afterwards.)

You can get the hoses rebuilt, re-using the fittings. SS lines are out there, too, as suggested...

BlaCkPlaGUE - Hit up the For Sale Section on the front page.. I'm sure you could pick up a used oil cooler for dirt *** cheap.. plus, any aftermarket oil cooler (sold at every auto parts store in america) would work with a little modification

Every single rotary-engined car ever produced by Mazda came with an oil cooler. It's absolutely necessary because the rotors cannot be cooled by water. They're cooled by internal oil jets instead. It's not an extra for turbo'd motors.
