i just got a oil cooler and i was wondering what is the proper way to flush it out and make sure it is clean on the insides. is there a specfic cleaner that i should use

 

although it is waay spooky dangerous, gasolene would be excellent.

diesel would also work.

a major feature of both of these is that any residue would be no more than normal oil contaminants.

 

The proper way is to send it to an FAA certified repair facility, they will use a heated cleaning solution, so the thermostatically controlled valve will open and send the flush soltion thru the oil cooler insted of thru the cold bypass path. They will also straighten/repair bent fins and pressure test the assembly before sending back to you. Her are threads that SEARCH found on the subject:
