take an empty can.
mount it somewhere convenient.
take two lengths of hose.
put one on the filler neck.
the other on the oil nipple on the intermediate housing.
put both ends of the hoses in said can.
take a step back and look at your home made master piece.
empty can whenever it fills up.

Where on the intermediate housing? I already have the oil filler neck hooked up to mine and all sorts of nasty stuff shows up in it.

Here's my catch can.

It's open vented but the vent line goes down under the car to help conceal it's open vented.

This must be a vented can if hooked up this way. Otherwise you'll wonder why your car is billowing white smoke from the exhaust. Ask me how I know.

You can also run the second vent on the can back into the intake pre-turbo. That will create a suction on the crankcase to prevent pressurization.

Anybody have a link to a cheap catch can? I've been using a radiator overflow bottle with a breather filter installed on it... :P

a vac source would be idea but open atmosphere works too.

having it suck back into the intake can cause some icky intake piping and make it harder to diagnose a blown turbo down the road.

A vent is a vent. So, yes.

if you are just going to open vent it then why not just run some vac line from the PCV nipples and run them to the bottom of the car and zip tie them to the fuel hardlines?

vapors from where? its just to vent the system, the oil sys creates its own pressure, you are just venting them to the atmosphere instead of sucking them back into the intake. i just noticed you already have the can so what will said sounds right to me. one from filler neck, one from intermediate iron both to catch can...

Because then you get kicked off the track if you spit anything out, or won't be allowed to run for not passing tech inspection. Some guys run that way on the street, but then again, why would we want to be oiling the ground?

that makes sense^ but nobody said a word about track, i wasn't saying this is the only way to go. it doen't "spit" anything visible out, they are vapors. Like Oil vapors are the worst thing coming from your rx7? it was just a damn suggestion, rhetorrical question if you will. I have a hard time beleiving that you are an environmentalist worried about oil vapors on the road.

some cars will actually spit out oil because of so much blowby. normally an inline filter can catch all the vapors but you need a catch can to get the heavier stuff that gets pushed out.

i was unaware of that, i haven't had that problem. thank you for the info... it always nice to learn something rather than have to argue with someone over a suggestion.

Wasn't trying to argue, sorry. In addition to blowby situations any RX-7 doing long right handed corners will puke oil out of the filler neck. This is a well known problem on Rx-7's that people try to fix with baffles, running low oil levels, and huge catch cans (like Greddy).

I have the problem myself due to high boost. The compression is great and shouldn't have blowby issues. It is a problem for anyone tracking them or making power significant over stock.

Bumping this because I don't have any nipple on the middle housing that I can see. Is this maybe where I have a block off plate? Can't find any vac nipples on the intermediate
